Comfy trousers and loafers

I apologize for the brief hiatus. My work schedule and my sister's free time kept conflicting last week leaving me with no one to capture my awkward posing and smiling. I do hope I eventually get better at taking pictures. I always worry about that fine line between confidence and vanity when taking pictures, yet I am still treading awkwardly in the "camera shy" zone.

Yesterday was my little cousin's 7th birthday. I think he'll always be little Rico in the eyes of the older cousins (which I'm sure frustrated him as he was trying to be Mr. Cool in front of his first-grade buddies.) I always get a kick out of being around little kids these days. Witnessing their lively imagination and genuine disgust towards affection and fascination with bugs and makeup and airplanes keeps me grounded and forces me to break free of the worries that inevitably pile up with each added birthday candle. They're a breath of fresh air.

Super throwback picture. Peep my sister in the right corner! Hehe, she could teach me a lesson or two about model poses.

Red shoes and acoustic songs

Top - F21;  Bottoms - H&M;  Shoes - Chinese Laundry; Earrings - F21

The heat wave is over and I can wear sleeves comfortably once again! I asked my dad before leaving the house whether my top reminded him of a penguin or of bowling attire, and he said yes to both. I was tempted to change afterwards but convinced myself that it would look chic if paired with the right bottoms and shoes. I absolutely love red heels, so I figured that the simplicity of the colors of my outfit  would require a little pop of red.

The peaks of my day are as follows (yes, the term was borrowed from the Kardashians):
1. Hearing the story of my little cousin telling the flight attendant it was his first time on an airplane and insisting he needed to see the cockpit.
2. Boiling crab, gelato, and strawberry beer
3. Relient K songs (acoustic versions preferred)

Pits of my day:
1. Dealing with my first rude patient
2. The burning in my stomach post-Boiling-Crab meals
3. Retelling stories of a time I wish I could permanently erase

Heat wave in the Bay Area

Top - American Rag;  Bottoms - American Eagle;  Accessories - F21;  Shoes - Michael Kors

I was really excited for the turn of the season when I could finally retrieve my buried scarves, sweaters, and boots from my closet. Instead, I find myself in this sweltering 90 degree weather wondering why it's warmer now than it ever was in the summer. That's California for you!

Since I felt a bit silly wearing really bright colors which are usually meant more for the months of May-August, I rummaged around for some darker shades that are more reminiscent of autumn but still appropriate for this weather. Those AE shorts are probably my comfiest pair. I do admit I bought them after seeing Kristen Stewart wear them so well.

The highlight of my day was grabbing dinner with one of my favorite people in the world, Lawrence Chang (aka Slizzard Slare, Larebear, or Slizzy.) It's nice to have my closest guy friend at UCLA so close to me post-graduation. The servers must have thought we were insane for ordering the huge appetizer sampler, but I couldn't resist mozzarella sticks, buffalo wings, onion rings, and zucchini all in one plate! Comfort food and wonderful company :)

White - Essie "Waltz"
Pink - Essie "Buy me a cameo"
Black - OPI "Baby It's 'COAL' Outside"

I had such a relaxing Sunday! I've noticed that I have come to appreciate the weekend much more now that my weekdays are spent working, as opposed to the past month of staying in bed with my laptop refreshing the browser every couple of minutes in hopes that a new job post shows up on Craigslist.

I finally got around to painting my nails and even mustered up enough patience to do some nail art. It brought me back to the days in Castle 308 (my old apartment in LA) when my friend Soniphs and I would come back after a grueling midterm, make margaritas, and paint our nails (note: the order of those events made it quite difficult to hold our hands steady.)

Why a cow design? Can't say that I have a particular reason other than the fact that I have been into the white/black/pink color scheme. And perhaps because my parents and I ordered all beef dishes during lunch yesterday. But whatever the reason, I think they're entertaining!

Relaxed button-ups

Top - H&M;  Bottoms - F21;  Bag - Hautelook;  Watch - Anne Klein;  Shades - Nordstrom

Greetings! Today was an eventful shopping day with my moms and dads. I can spend hours looking through racks of clothes, and lately, I’ve been obsessed with bargain stores. I impulsively pull over at any Nordstrom Rack or Marshalls or T.J. Maxx that I drive by, even if I don’t end up buying anything in the end. It’s so fun to just kill time flipping through hangers.
Sometimes I have incredibly random dreams that make no sense whatsoever until I come across something during the day that pieces it all together. Last night, I dreamt that my friend Soniphs and I were dating George and Justin Nozuka, respectively. I used to listen to Justin Nozuka a lot during the summer but I haven’t tuned in to any of his music for about two months or so, thus seeing him in my dreams was nothing short of bizarre (but I didn’t mind, considering he’s so handsome and talented.) Anyways, I just found out through Tumblr five minutes ago that today is his birthday!! My old co-worker would say that it’s probably the Pisces in me (apparently we’re psychic.)

Professional world

Top - F21; Bottoms - F21; Bag - Aldo; Shoes - Nine West

Today was my first official day at Bella Eye Care Optometry and I had such a wonderful day! Dr. Nguyen is just the coolest and the other clinical assistant, Teresa, is so sweet and spunky. I think I’m really going to enjoy working there. I’m so glad I didn’t just jump on the first job offer that presented itself to me. Now, I get to spend every day in a clinical environment that I enjoy and interact with patients on a daily basis! I have no doubt that working at Bella Eye Care will get me even more excited about a career in medicine.
One of the most exciting changes from my office assistant job at ORL to this job is the dress code. While I thoroughly enjoyed the comfort of wearing jeans and work-out clothes at my old job, I definitely welcome the opportunity (or rather the requirement) to wear slacks, pencil skirts, heels, fancy blouses, and blazers.

I have been talking about starting a fashion blog for quite some time now. I guess all those hours spent scrolling through Kourtney Kardashian’s blog, Wendy’s Lookbook, Hapa Time, Song of Style, Dulce Candy, Lookbook, etc. inevitably transformed into a love for fashion, which in turn manifested itself into this blog.
It took a while to actually get around to this, though. I was consumed by college, held captive in research with my mouse babies, stressed out with medical school applications, and drained from job hunting.
But alas, here I am: A UCLA graduate with a BS in Neuroscience newly employed as a clinical assistant for a wonderful optometry office. Nothing can stop me now! Except maybe my lack of a fancy DSLR camera, a roadblock which various iPhone apps have made conveniently easy to bypass. My blog is on a budget, as is my fashion.
Ok. This will do for an introduction.
